Pricing After-Hours and Emergency Garage Door Calls on the Estimate

It is 9pm on a Sunday. A spring just broke, the door will not open, and the car the customer needs at 6am is inside. They will pay more to get it fixed tonight, and they know it. What they will not accept is finding out how much more after the work is done.

Urgent Requests Come From Everywhere

Emergency calls come in by phone, by text and through the website form covered in Website Quote Requests: From the Form to a Garage Door Estimate. Wherever they come from, the price needs to be clear before a tech heads out.

Decide If You Do Emergencies at All

Not every garage door company takes after-hours calls, and that is a valid choice. If you do, decide the rules once:

Those are business decisions. The software's job is to make sure everyone quotes them the same way.

Set Up Emergency Services on the List

On your GarageDoorBossPro service list, give after-hours work its own services rather than editing prices on each quote:

Named services do two things. They tell the customer why the number is higher, and they keep the regular prices clean for daytime quotes.

Say the Price Before the Van Rolls

An after-hours customer is stressed and in a hurry, which makes it more important, not less, to be clear about price. On the phone, give the after-hours service call price and the standard price for the likely repair: “Our after-hours service call is $189. If it's the springs, that's $295 for the pair on top. The tech will confirm before doing anything else.”

If there is time, send a written estimate the customer can approve online before the tech arrives. Even a short one with the emergency service call and the likely repair puts the agreement on record.

On Site, Late at Night

When the tech arrives, the job card in the tech app shows the address, access notes, past notes for the house and the equipment on file. If the house is a repeat customer, the tech may already know the door size and spring type before walking in. That saves time, which matters more at night.

If the tech finds more than expected, the extra work should be priced from the same service list and agreed before it is done. Anything not urgent can wait for a regular-hours estimate the next day.

Safety Advice Over the Phone

Emergency callers sometimes ask if they can just force the door open. The answer is no. A door with a broken spring or a loose cable should be left alone until a trained tech arrives. If the car is stuck, the tech is the one to deal with it. Saying this plainly is part of the service.

Billing the Emergency

When the tech taps Complete, the invoice is built from the job's line items, including the emergency service call and any surcharge, with sales tax. The card on file can be charged at completion. Because the emergency lines were on the estimate the customer approved, the invoice matches what they agreed to.

Emergency calls are also a good moment to mention a yearly tune-up plan. A customer who just paid after-hours prices is often interested in a yearly visit, and the customer app lets them sign up for it. That conversation is covered in Quoting a Yearly Tune-Up Plan Alongside the Repair.

Higher Price, No Surprise

After-hours pricing is fair when it is clear. Named emergency services on the list, a price said on the phone, a written estimate when there is time, and an invoice that matches. Customers who get that treatment at 9pm on a Sunday remember who showed up.
